π± How to Water Your Newly Installed Plants β The Right Way

At C2B Outdoor Services, we take pride in installing beautiful, healthy plants that enhance your landscape. But once we've finished planting, your care in the first few weeks is what determines how well your new plants will thrive. One of the most important steps? Proper watering.
Hereβs everything you need to know to keep your new plants healthy and happy.
π§ Why Watering Matters So Much at the Start
Newly planted trees, shrubs, and flowers havenβt yet developed strong root systems in your soil. They rely heavily on frequent watering to:
Establish roots
Avoid transplant shock
Stay hydrated during warm or windy conditions
Neglecting watering early on is one of the top reasons plants fail after installation.
π The First 2 Weeks: Water Daily (or As Needed)
Water daily for the first 7β14 days, especially during hot or dry weather.
Make sure the soil is moist but not soggy β think of a wrung-out sponge.
Water at the base of the plant, not over the leaves.
Early morning or late evening is the best time to water (to prevent evaporation and leaf burn).
πΏ Weeks 3β6: Taper to Every 2β3 Days
Start cutting back to every 2β3 days, depending on rainfall and soil conditions.
Check soil moisture by inserting your finger about 2 inches deep β if it feels dry, itβs time to water.
Continue focusing on the root zone.
π³ After 6 Weeks: Weekly Watering (Depending on Plant Type)
Most plants will start adapting to their environment.
Switch to weekly deep waterings β soaking the root zone thoroughly.
Trees and large shrubs may still need supplemental watering for the first 6β12 months.
β Pro Tips from Our Team
Mulch matters: We always install mulch around your plants to retain moisture β keep it fluffed and off the plant stems.
Avoid overhead watering: Use a hose or drip system when possible.
New sod or grass? Ask us for a separate watering guide β they have different needs!

π« Signs of Over or Underwatering
Too much water:
Yellowing leaves
Mushy stems
Standing water or soggy soil
Too little water:
Drooping or wilting leaves
Dry, brittle soil
Browning edges on leaves
